I’m Petrina Darrah. Here’s what you need to know about my work as a New Zealand travel writer.
About me
Born and raised in the Coromandel Peninsula, I’m a proud New Zealander with a passion for sharing the beauty of Aotearoa. My website is at the heart of my work. My focus is on sharing honest opinions and reliable information in a sea of samey content.
My professional background managing content for major travel brands like Tourism New Zealand and Jucy Rentals means I have a strong grasp of SEO, user intent, conversion optimisation, and a host of other skills which means my content gets seen by the right people — who then take the right actions.
Website statistics
I share curated, first-person recommendations for accommodation and activities across New Zealand. Everything I suggest is based on my own experiences, which means my audience can trust what I say. The result is evident in the affiliate conversions I see from my website, as people book with operators I know and recommend.

I have a strong understanding of my audience thanks to the itinerary consultation service I provide. By helping readers plan their trips, I hear firsthand about their challenges, and how they found my content.
My readers are most typically between the ages of 30-70, active and adventurous but not interested in adrenaline activities like bungy jumps. They like to get off the beaten path, but also enjoy comfortable accommodation, good food, and great wine. They are independent travellers, so driving isn’t an issue — road tripping is often the preferred way to travel, and moving at a relatively fast pace is acceptable.
My values I only write about places and activities I have experienced first hand. (I never have, and never will, use AI in my writing).
Wherever possible, I prefer to highlight locally owned, independent, Maori owned, woman owned, and small businesses.
I know that visitors want a local experience; and I believe going local is a powerful for tourism to be a force for good.
I’m passionate about the environment, and while I know travel isn’t perfect on that front, there are many awesome businesses giving back to conservation and community initiatives. Those businesses get my vote (and I hope, my readers’ vote).
How I work with travel brands.
My responsibility is first and foremost to my readers, so I’m selective about how I work with brands. I’m open to famils, but I don’t guarantee coverage. I will only accept sponsorship from brands I already use, and genuinely recommend. I don’t sell links or any other kind of placement on my site.
If you are an independently owned, community minded travel business or brand, feel free to get in touch.
